Hi, hopefully someone can help me, i just got an N Reg 16V GTI Mk3
Golf in place of my older Mk3 8v (And my god what a difference!
amazing very pleased) but i didn't get any kind of documents/manual
with the alarm system, all the guy knows is that it was a decent
Scorpion Cat1 Alarm/immobiliser.

Its got two buttons on the remote, i've worked out that the left
button enables/disables the alarm/immobiliser and unlocks/locks the
doors/boot, i havent a clue what the right hand button does, you press
it and the car goes nuts at you screaming with its lights and siren!

Then at the side of the remote there is a switch, i cant notice what
effect this has on the car as of yet, and on the other side of the
remote there looks like a miniature USB port (lol?).

When i open/lock the doors with the remote the lights flash a few
times but there is no audio signal.

I cant think what else would help any of you guys to identify the
alarm, hope someone can help me..

Oh, The Remote has Volkswagon written on it despite being a scorpion
system?!?! And it takes batteries which are 28x10mm :)

Hope someone can help me.

Try popping the bonnet and finding the siren box, on there somewhere
should be the model number from which you can identify your remote and
get the specs/user manual from the Scorpion site [1], most alarm
companies use the same type of remote across a range of alarms so just a
decription of the remote won't be good enough.

[1] If it is a cat1 immobiliser then that part should be well hidden
somewhere under the dash out of sight somewhere so that could prove more
tricky to track down and identify.

Sounds like the same as my VR6 alarm.
Its a Scorpion 5000.
Left button is lock/unlock car (with full closure. ie windows/sunroof will
close also)
Right button is PANIC!! and sets off the alarm.... but you know that ;o)
Slider on side is to lock car with/without internal sensors working. To find
out which way is which, you'll have to set it whilst sitting in the car and
make a few movements once the alarm has completely set ( 30 secs'ish I'd
say)
If you're getting petrol, you may have noticed that the alarm arms after a
few seconds whilst you're filling up, to stop this, get out of car, set
alarm, then unset it immediately, handy if you've got passengers who can't
sit still.
I think its only a CAT1 if this feature is set when first installing the
alarm (auto setting) but I don't think you can set/unset this feature
yourself, once its done..... its done if you see what I mean?

I think you can set/unset the audible feature, depending if its set
with/without drivers door open, but can't remember.
When the missis gets home 2nite- if she's not too late!- I'll scan the info
leaflet I got with the car and if you give me your e-mail addy I'll send it
on.

Yeah if you could do that it would be cool, i've checked scorpions
site and there's no info whatsoever for the 5000, must be an old
model. (Leon AT skijumptoes.co.uk)

My main concern is that if i turn on the sensors it goes off during
the night, im guessing the sensors in the car are detecting cars that
go past and i should swivel them round a bit, thats the only info i
need really. Any ideas?! And do you have similar problems?
